To understand the relationship between the electronic and atomistic structure, collective behavior and dynamics of materials and their interfaces.
To apply that knowledge in the creation of affordable, cleaner and renewable energy sources and technologies.

Staff Scientist Dr. Patrick Kirchmann notes “This is a time lapse of the installation of a custom set of laser tables from Newport in the SIMES UVH/Laser lab at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
