The Moore group seeks to develop theories for new phenomena in quantum materials, including non-equilibrium dynamics and novel states of topological matter.  Methods include analytical techniques such as quantum field theory and also numerical methods, primarily based on tensor networks.

Research Interests

Some basic questions underlying our work include:

What quantum states and dynamical processes of electrons are generated in quantum materials?

How can they be probed in transport and optical measurements?

How can classical or quantum computation aid in the challenge of understanding quantum matter?

How does the geometry and topology of electronic wavefunctions affect electromagnetic response and other properties?

How does spatial variation of various kinds lead to useful behavior, e.g., in defect states with quantum coherence?
