Research Interests

I work on the isolation of relatively large, “higher” diamondoids (1-2 nanometer-sized hydrogen-terminated diamonds), from petroleum.  Higher diamondoids, for which we are the only source, are then supplied to researchers at Stanford and throughout the world.  These relatively new nano-materials have a variety of unique properties including extremely strong van der Waals attractions, monochromatic photo-emission, the ability to drastically lower field emission work functions, and the the ability to seed larger diamonds.  Most of these properties were discovered by SIMES researchers.
